Web Productivity Applications

There are a number of productivity applications available online in 2009. So many in fact, you could create almost any document with only a web browser. Online applications have a number of benefits over traditional desktop productivity suites, the most obvious being cost. The majority of them are free. Another benefit is they allow for seamless sharing across different platforms. We have compiled a list for you to compare and contrast as well as links to each of them if you wish to try.

Word Processors

You don't want to shell out the $500 or so for Microsoft Office but want a suite of products that integrate well together. We suggest that you try Google Docs. It does (almost) everything that Office does - word processing, spreadsheets, slideshow presentations. It even does things that Office doesn't such as creating forms. Adobe Systems provides a free web based word processing tool called Buzzword. Another great online productivity suite worth checking out is Creative Pro Office.

Image Editors

In the age of do-it-yourself photography, image editors such as Adobe Photoshop can be a costly proposition. Fortunately, Adobe Systems has provided a free online service called Photoshop Express. It has almost all of the basic features of the desktop version, along with a few great features not found in the desktop version. These features include sharing with other photo sites, print ordering, and publishing to blogs. Some of the other online image editors can be found at Picasa, Flickr and Photobucket.
